Comberton is described in Kelly's
Directory of Cambridgeshire, 1896, as a Parish in the Western Division of the County,
in the Hundred (an old English term meaning an administrative Division within a County) of
Wetherley and in the Union (another old English term for a combination of Parishes) of
Chesterton. It is 5 miles South West of Cambridge and its soil is clay overlaying chalk
and gault.
John Skinner - born
about 1776 - married on 23rd September, 1794 at Comberton UK Eleanor Butler - born about
1774.
John Skinner was a Farmer who lived
at Comberton in Cambridgeshire UK. It is not known when John and Eleanor died,
however as Eleanor does not appear on the 1841 Census it can be assumed that she died
between 1816 and 1841 after her last daughter was born. John was still alive when the 1851
Census was taken and he was then 85 years old.
Their children were:
1. Ellen Skinner - Christened 26th August, 1798 at Comberton.
2. Sarah Skinner - Christened 5th April, 1801 at Comberton.
3. John Skinner - Christened 8th May, 1803 at Comberton who married Mary Ann Field in 1830
at Comberton. John died aged 90 years at Ely in 1893.
4. Anne Skinner - Christened 5th May, 1805 at Comberton.
5. Mary Skinner - Christened 25th December, 1807 at Comberton.
6. JACOB SKINNER - Christened 11th March, 1810 at Comberton who married
Caroline Storey in 1837 at Chesterton. (See Next Page)
7. Frances Skinner and *8. Rebecca Skinner - Twins - Christened 14th February, 1812 at
Comberton.
*As there is another child called Rebecca it is assumed that this one died in infancy.
9. William Skinner - Christened 12th September, 1813 at Comberton.
10. Rebecca Skinner - Christened 24th March, 1816 at Comberton who married Samuel Patman
in 1836 at Comberton. Together with their family of 7 children - sailed on the "Duke
of Richmond" and landed in Portland, Victoria in 1853. They settled at Macarthur in
Western Victoria. |
