The
Skinners in New Zealand
(Continued)
ERIC WILLIAM HERBERT (SKINNER) was born in 1906 the first son of William and Caroline and in 1930 married Ellen Parris -- known as Nell. Their only son Terence William was born in 1931. Erics only job was at Warnock Bros, who were tanners and soap manufacturers. He started at the early age of thirteen and retired in his early sixties having attained the position of factory manager. Eric was a keen Rugby player and in his younger days played and captained many a championship team for the Ponsonby District Rugby Football Club. After retiring from playing he went on coaching up to Senior Level with reasonable success. On his death he was the longest life member of the Club. Eric was also a very keen gardener and in his early teens bred and raced pigeons. Eric and Nell lived nearly all their married life in Westmere until their 90th year when their health deteriorated and 24-hour care was necessary. They both passed away aged 92 within sixteen months of each other. Eric died in 1999 and Nell in 2000. |
