Ruby Amelia Skinner (nee Lamb)
1887-1975

Born on 27th November 1887 at Bendigo Victoria. She was the eldest daughter and one of 13 children of Joseph and Amelia Elizabeth (nee Pearson).

Ruby attended the public school at Long Gully and the family were closely associated with the Buckley St Methodist Church.
The family moved to Prahran/Windsor area of Melbourne in the early 1900's and attended the Punt Rd Methodist Church. Ruby's father Joseph became the Superintendent of the Sunday School. Ruby had a very good soprano voice and she sang in the church choir until she was married in 1913. Ruby worked as a milliner in the city (Melbourne). Most of her friends were either from the church or the "rag trade". She kept up these friendships for many years.

Ruby married Percival George Skinner in 1913 and they lived in the Prahran/Windsor area until 1925/26 when they moved to 36 Radnor St Camberwell.

Ruby and Percival had 4 sons - Clarence, 1914 died at 6 weeks; Clive 1916-1998; Kenneth 1922-1923 died at 18 months and Stuart 1927. The first three were born in Prahran/Windsor area and Stuart at Camberwell.

Ruby and Percival continued their associated with the Methodist Church at South Camberwell where Ruby was a member of the choir and closely connected with other church functions. She belonged to the Mother's Club at South Camberwell Public School from 1926 to 1939/40. She was a keen gardener, sewer and quite a good cook.

In 1965 she was diagnosed with bowl cancer and underwent an operation for its removal. This was successful but the doctor only gave her a life expectancy of 5 years.

She managed to extend this to 10 years. After Percival died in 1972 Ruby moved into an elderly people's home further along Radnor Street. In January 1975 she suffered a heart attack and she died in Box Hill Hospital. She was cremated at Springvale Crematorium.
